What Beer Day Is It?

Do you need an excuse to drink? Have you noticed how many National (insert beer style) Days there have been popping up lately? It seems like there’s more this year than ever before. Which is most likely a product of stay-at-home Covid drinking. Having special calendar beer days makes our alcoholism seem like a fun hobby!

With a big date coming up for my fellow Canadian beer lovers on Oct 7th, Canadian Beer Day, I figured I’d compile a list of all the remaining beer related calendar days for this year.

  • Sept 28 – Drink Beer Day
    • Seriously, that’s it? Just “Drink Beer”? Somebody was desperate for an excuse to drink.
  • Oct 1 – Barrel Aged Beer Day
    • I actually couldn’t find any info on this one that wasn’t a year or more older but we need to bring this one back. I’m a fan!
  • Oct 4 – The End of Oktoberfest
    • It was a sad day when Oktoberfest festivities were officially cancelled this year but that didn’t stop us from unofficially celebrating in our lederhosen in the comfort of our homes.
  • Oct 7Canadian Beer Day
    • Time to grab some cans from your favorite local Canadian brewery and raise a glass to all the people working in this industry to keep our whistles wet. From brewers to front-end staff to delivery drivers and everyone in between, cheers!
  • Oct 9 – Pizza & Beer Day
    • And it’s on a Friday? It’s almost too easy.
  • Oct 27 – American Beer Day
    • Time to celebrate the rich history of American brewing. Enjoy an American Pale Ale or American IPA or California Common. What will you crack open?
  • Nov 3 – Learn How To Homebrew Day
    • Been there, done that, drain poured. The pros brew better than I do so I’ll celebrate them on November 3rd.
  • Nov 5 – International Stout Day
    • It’s #StoutSzn! This is an easy one. Something dark and delicious for the colder weather.
  • Nov 12 – Happy Hour Day
    • Like we needed an excuse to get 15 cent wings and $4 pints.
  • Nov 17 – Gose Day
    • Gos-eh? Gos-uh? Goose, honk! Time to enjoy this salty dog.
  • Nov 18 – Apple Cider Day
    • Yes, I threw a cider day on the list. So what? My palette must be more refined than yours.
  • Nov 19 – Carbonated Beverage with Caffeine Day
    • Yes, it’s real. This is not one that I made up. I get it though, this is the 3rd day in a row of drinking celebrations. You’ll probably need a coffee porter or mocha stout to help get you through the day.
  • Dec 1 – Open Your Beer Advent Calendars
    • Not an official beer day, just a friendly reminder to crack open that first bottle in your calendar.
  • Dec 4 – Bartender Appreciation Day
    • Tip big and tip often. These bartenders have to put up with your drunk shenanigans.
  • Dec 10 – Lager Day
    • Who decided to put lager day in December? Was this a desperate attempt for lager heavy breweries to say “please don’t forget about us”? Crispy bois unite!
  • Dec 31 – New Year’s Eve
    • Duh!

What do you think? There seems to be a few light weeks in the calendar which would leave us with no excuses to drink. That means…we’d have to….drink for no reason?? What fun is that? So I decided to add in a few of my own. Let me know what you think of my proposals.

  • Oct 17 – Pumpkin Beer Day
    • Probably one of the most controversial beer styles out there. Whether you celebrate it in your cable knit sweater drinking out of a mason jar or you’re simply pouring it down the drain, let’s show some love/hate to this seasonal style. Don’t @ me.
  • Nov 7 – Brewery Merch Day
    • Not necessarily a drinking day but a good way to show support to your local craft brewery. Show off your fav shirt, hoody, hat from your fav brewery.
  • Dec 21 – Prepare Your Liver Day
    • The Holidays are here. Your liver is going to hate you next week and the week after. Maybe just have a water, you lush. Well, maybe just something sessionable.
